SV1 — the set that launched the Scarlet & Violet era. Koraidon ex and Miraidon ex as the box legendaries, plus Charizard ex making its SV debut.
Join an SV Base Set Break →Scarlet & Violet Base Set (SV1) launched in March 2023, beginning the current Scarlet & Violet era and introducing the new ex card mechanic (replacing the VMAX/VSTAR structure from Sword & Shield). It also introduced Special Illustration Rares (SIR) as the new ultra-premium card tier.
For breaks, SV Base is notable for having two equally strong S-tier slots: Fighting (Koraidon ex SIR) and Lightning (Miraidon ex SIR). Both legendary box Pokemon have SIRs that command $20–50 each. Fire is A-tier with Charizard ex SIR ($30–70) — making this one of the rare sets where three different slot types all justify premium prices.
Lightning. Despite Miraidon's futuristic robot aesthetic, it's a Dragon/Electric Pokemon in the games — and Electric maps to the Lightning slot in the TCG. Miraidon ex cards go to the Lightning slot in breaks, not Dragon or Colorless.
Fighting and Lightning are tied at S-tier. Koraidon ex SIR and Miraidon ex SIR are both $20–50 cards, and both slots typically have additional SIR secondary pulls. Fire is a strong A-tier with Charizard ex SIR — but given how heavily Fire is priced in breaks, Fighting or Lightning often offers better EV per dollar spent.
